I wrote earlier this year about the forthcoming Goosebumps movie. Well it’s here. And it still looks nice and fun for the whole family.
I don’t know about you, but I grew up reading those books. I remember having dozens of them. I definitely wish I still had them and I’d put them on my shelf. But I have no idea where they’ve run off to. I’m not entirely sure how popular the books still are today, but I can tell you that we struggle mightily to keep any in stock at my store. We have plenty of copies of the more recent series, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen more than two copies of Goosebumps.
I have no idea if this movie will do well at the box office or not, but man does it bring back memories for me. I may need to pick up some of the old stories I read just to see what I used to love. Do you have a favorite book in the series? Maybe a favorite monster? Or maybe you’re going to see the movie this weekend.
Slappy. He’s my favorite.

The ventriloquist’s dummy. The night of the living dummy?

Be Careful What You Wish For was always my favorite one. The cover art for the dummy and the shrunken head ones were super scary to me as a kid though – I once hid in my friend’s living room for like an hour because she had the dummy stories in her bedroom and I couldn’t stand looking at them.
I hope the movie does well, but I probably won’t see it. Maybe if it’s well received, but the current previews don’t suggest that I’m the target age group, heh. Did you ever watch the Goosebumps TV show as a kid? It’s on Nerflix now. I remember it being scary back then, but watching them now…so cheesy.

I think the movie looks terrible. But I was a huge fan of the series, I had most of the main books! I wish I’d kept them. One of my faves was Beast from the East. I do still own two Fear Street books, his series for teens. I love them.

Terrible? Come on. 74% on Rotten Tomatoes. I don’t know those.

I don’t go by what rotten tomatoes thinks. Just as a fan of the books who is now an adult, I see no appeal in the movie. Though I’d read any of the books again.

Oh. It must be impossible for professionals to have been fans of the books at some point, huh?

I can’t tell the tone of that comment, haha. I don’t usually enjoy the movie adaptations of books anyway. If I was a young child, I’d probably want to go see the movie.
