I’ll be the first person to admit that I use emojis quite a bit. My favorites are probably right in line with most people. I like these three the most ๐๐๐. But I’ve used just about every emoji in my keyboard. But I really only use them when texting my girlfriend. Sometimes in tweets. Sometimes in comments on here. That’s about it. So only a portion of my textual messaging really uses emojis.
But have you ever been or know someone who uses them WAY too much? I remember a friend of mine temporarily getting her sister’s phone and there were more emojis in her conversations than words. Ha! Not only is that ridiculous, but it’s also stupid. And this probably isn’t even a rare occurrence.
I imagine younger teens up to high school kids doing this. My reaction is to pump my fist in the air and proclaim, “THIS MUST STOP!”. Okay. Now people are looking at me like I’m doing something strange. *runs*
Do you know anyone who uses emojis way too often? Do you ever shake them and tell them words need some love too?
I think I sometimes fall into the “uses them TOO much” category. I try not to, honest–but sometimes it’s really hard to put into words what my face looks like reacting to certain things, so out come the emojis. Oops?

Uh oh. In that case, what’s your favorite emoji? Hahaha.

Maybe they can work they way into more formal style. Then we can write novels with them to “show” emotion.

Hahahaha I love emojis!! Because then I don’t have to use my words lol and also they express my facial reactions perfectly

Hmmm. I’d like to think words express things a bit better than emojis. But eh, what do I know? Haha.

I’m an emoji user myself. I guess my emoji use is based on the person I’m chatting with. I use them a lot with certain people, never with others and on occasion with a few.
I knew a few folks older than me who never use them but get a kick out of me using them.
My husband is on his phone more than not while working so he appriciates brevity. Anything to shorten a message. ‘C’ replaces ‘see’, ‘u’ for ‘you’, etc.
I have been known to sprinkle them in posts when I’m in a farely good mood also.
I also know people who I speak more in emoji with than actual words.
My favorites, according to the first three in my list are ๐๐๐.

Same. I definitely change it up depending on who I’m talking to. BUT I definitely don’t shorten or abbreviate words. Cause it takes essentially the same amount of time to type or read the message, whether it’s abbreviated or not. I also couldn’t text someone who does that. I rarely use ๐ anymore. Eh.

I go more for the “show don’t tell” rule and rarely use emojis unless nothing else will get my point across. I’m always hoping the people I text who use too many emojis will get the hint when I use perfect grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. But they probably never learn.

Uh oh. I’m never using them to reply to you again.

Haha! No, it’s fine. I use them here, too. I mean more in texting on phones. Most people here use them sparingly and still know how to apply the concept of words.

Mhm. Still only using them when I absolutely have to with you. Otherwise you might become secretly angry. Can’t have that.

Nope, my boyfriend doesn’t. He uses a flip phone (at least until later today) so doesn’t have the emoji icon. Besides, he would rather talk on the phone than text on it (shudder)

I definitely use them too much, so I’m trying to cut back. (I sound like a caffeine addict, or something.) I also use “lol” and “haha” too much. I think it’s because I’m afraid if I don’t use them, I’ll sound too serious or mean, since I use a lot of sarcasm, and that doesn’t translate well over text ๐

Hahaha I sometimes leave out my emojis and then the other person isn’t happy. And I’m just like whoops. I also use “haha” and “Lol”. Oh well.

Throwing a smiley at the end of a sentence is fine. Especially when you want to clarify that you’re being lighthearted or sarcastic.
But yeah, people who use like…the cake emoji? Followed by the poo emoji and an alien one? That the heck does that mean? If it takes more effort for me to decipher what your random string of pictures comes together to mean, you may as well have written it lol.

I love emojis but I don’t use them more than I use words. But with people like my sister or my best friend, we have emoji contests and stuff. But otherwise, exclamation marks are my thing. ๐

My grandson, when he was 10, came up with a game where one person thinks of a sentence and “writes” it with Emoji. The other person then guesses the sentence. It’s awesome. His idea and he doesn’t even realize he’s learning. I thought of doing that with my high school ENL students then realized that their sentences might noooooot be appropriate. So I tabled that idea.

Hmm. I can definitely see how kids might come up with something entirely inappropriate by doing that. Haha.

I use them more on the computer than I do on my phone and that’s mostly because I can type them rather than having to click an emoji icon, hunt down the one I want, then click again. Just a couple of keystrokes, that’s it :). See? Smiley face is : & ) together.
My favorites: ๐ ๐ ๐
Yes, I know I could type them on the phone, too but that involves more time than I’m interested in investing since I have to touch through to the symbol keyboard.

Hmm. I actually never type them out like that. I only use them on my phone. We’re opposites.
