I have a bit of a special relationship with this series. In elementary school my art teacher would play the audiobooks while we worked. I believe it’s also how I was first introduced to Harry Potter.
I’ve never read the books. I definitely don’t remember any of the stories from 13-15 years ago. The one thing that has stuck with me is that I know I enjoyed listening to the stories.
Now Netflix has adapted the first couple of books in season 1 of its new series. It may be time to read the first few books and watch the series. I mean, a trip down memory lane never hurt anyone.
What’s your experience with this series?

It’s on my list of Netflix shows to watch. My reading list is a mile long so I’ll probably watch the series first.

I did not like Episode 1 so I don’t think I’m going to revisit it. And I’m a HUGE Harry Potter fan so it isn’t that it’s fantasy.I’m not sure what it was. It reminds me, style-wise, a little like Edward Scissorhands which I did not like either. Maybe the book is better. I usually like books better.

I don’t want to watch 8 episodes of “their lives were bleak and terrible and it will only get worse.” Maybe I should give the 2nd episode a shot.

I admittedly only just read the first title and am looking to find the rest of the series. I have a soft spot for grim and less pleasant tales. I found Bad Beginning to be oddly endearing in a sad sort of way 🙂

I read the first book when I was a pre-teen. I distinctly remember enjoying it and wanting to read more but never did. I wish I had though and part of me is always drawn to the series.

I don’t remember anything from the stories. Only that I enjoyed listening to whatever was played during class. I still have a million books to read, but those books are so short that I’ll go ahead and give the first book a read at some point.

These books came out when I was in elementary school as well! I’ve always loved them ever since and am so happy they are finally making a good TV adaptation of the amazing series.

I started it and then started a new job. I think I’ve enjoyed it enough to finish it. Eight episodes isn’t too many.
