I was just scrolling through another of those lists of books I should read before I’m 30, and I realized something. I’m fast approaching 30! Oh boy. Am I ready for this?
But really, I started thinking about which books I actually think would be beneficial to read before the big 3-0.
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Hunger Games
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
The Diary of a Young Girl
I won’t sit here and pretend that these four books have everything a young person needs to know to live a fulfilling life, but I believe there is so much to be learned from these four works. The topics addressed in these books are different from one another and important for any generation.
Which books would you recommend to your not-quite-30-years-old-self?
Hmm, I have passed the 3-0 mark, but have kids below that mark. Some of the books we have read that have left an impression are;
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (series)
A Wrinkle in Time
Little House on the Prairie (series)
Harry Potter
Interestingly, they all have children as protagonists, which I think inspires young people to take more control over their worlds. We all have a story to tell and can control not only our destiny, but sometimes that of the bigger world around us. There are others, but I will stick with the first four that popped into my head too.

Those are some good ones. I’ve read A Wrinkle in Time and two Potter books, but not the others. I think any books with strong messages would be beneficial. No matter which issues they pertain to.
