An edible one. I’m just reading some articles this Sunday morning and came across an edible book festival that took place in the NJ area. I read about it and thought it was interesting enough to write about on here, so I searched for more articles about it. It turns out that this is fairly common!
The one I read about was simple. People created edible delights based on books. I imagine the others are similar. They’re then judged in different categories with hopes of winning a small prize. We have so many creative people walking around that it should come as no surprise to have people combining their baking/cooking skills with their love for literature.
I’m not really into sweets, but I’d still like to attend some kind of edible book festival. They’re so different from what you’d expect from a literary gathering. Have you attended one of these before?
I’ve never attended a book festival/expo of any kind. But not every one is made equally. I’m not sure how much I’d enjoy a local festival that only lasts a day or two. But I can’t definitely say I wouldn’t enjoy it, right?
I think it would be a pleasant experience to be surrounded by people who love books. Wouldn’t really matter what they love reading or who, just that they do. The simple fact is that books give so many people something in common. Literature may seem small in the eyes of some, but common ground is common ground. There’s not much of that going around today.
Have you attended any book festival/expo? How was it?
The NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four was just in Houston. And by all accounts it was wildly successful. There was a huge music festival and an “experience” for every member of the family. Those things happen around every sporting event.
But I’d like to see something for books around these things. Can you imagine if the NFL hosted the Super Bowl Festival of Books in each host city every year? They’d be promoting the game and literacy. I mean, who wouldn’t want to attend that? The NBA or MLB could host something similar during their respective All-Star breaks.
These events bring thousands of people into one place. I think they could potentially bring books and people together. What do you think?
